The police was in a state of chaos, but it has been largely disciplined, said the Inspector General of Police (IGP). Ali Hossain Fakir.
The IGP said this after inaugurating the Khilkhet police outpost building on the side of the 300 feet road adjacent to Purbachal in the capital on Friday.

IGP Ali Hossain said that the democratic government has been established in an acceptable election through the overall cooperation of the law enforcement forces and the countrymen. The first Police Week will be celebrated under this new government. There was some chaos on the part of the police, which was largely brought to order.
The IGP said that the government’s election manifesto was supposed to maintain law and order. The demands of the police are being fulfilled soon. Currently there are 220 thousand members of Bangladesh Police. There were some deficiencies in the police, which the government is aware of.

Regarding the inauguration of Khilkhet police outpost, IGP Ali Hossain said that the importance of Khilkhet area has increased due to the increasing expansion of Dhaka metropolis and the significant increase of residential and commercial establishments around Purbachal area. Especially the 300 feet road, expressway-adjacent areas have become a fast growing urban area. The existing location of Khilkhet police station and the expansion of the area to ensure law and order and public safety and to reach the people of the police service, the establishment of a police outpost in Barura and surrounding areas of Khilkhet became very necessary.
The IGP also said that the 300 feet road, the expressway has connected the new city of Purbachal with the Dhaka metropolis. Namapara, Patira, Dumni, Barura and Talna areas here are administratively under the jurisdiction of Khilkhet police station but are relatively far from the police station. As these areas are adjacent to Purbachal New Town, central to commercial areas and multiple link roads, Khilkhet police station functions will be decentralized and operationalized by setting up a police outpost here.
The IGP said that in recent years, Khilkhet, Barura, Dumni, Patira and Talna areas have seen rapid population growth and settlement trends in new residential projects. There is a danger of law and order disruption due to land-related disputes surrounding various housing projects. The area is being used as a potential route for drug transport and dealing as it is connected to Dhaka and nearby areas including Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Ali Hossain also said that besides the people of different classes and occupations, the living of working people and low income people has increased in these areas. As a result, security threats have been created through the use of weapons and drugs. 300 feet road, expressway and surrounding areas are crowded with entertainment workers at night. In this situation, strong police presence at the local level at all times has become essential.
The police chief said that there are opportunities for theft and robbery in the expressway and surrounding areas. The criminal gang is especially active in the evening and night. Expressway is used as a busy important road. Accidents have increased due to fast and reckless speed of vehicles. Namapara, Barura and Talna of Khilkhet are far from Khilkhet police station and due to lack of communication system, these areas cannot be reached quickly in case of emergency. As a result, it becomes difficult to take immediate action when a crime is committed.
The IGP said that by ensuring full-time police presence near these areas, police contact with the people would increase. Policing activities can be expedited. As a result, prevention measures can be taken before crime occurs and it will be easier. Apart from this, it will be possible to respond immediately when receiving news of an emergency situation.
