One killed, several injured in Narsingdi factional clash

A 22-year-old man was killed and several others wounded Tuesday during a violent clash between rival factions in the Nilokkha Union of Narsingdi’s Raipura upazila, marking a fresh escalation in a long-standing territorial dispute.
The violence erupted at approximately 6:00 a.m. when supporters of local figure Alal Munshi allegedly arrived by speedboat, armed with firearms and indigenous weapons, and launched an ambush on followers of resident Nazim Uddin. The confrontation, which spanned the villages of Haripur and Darigaon, continued in multiple waves until 11:00 a.m.

The victim, identified as Anik, a resident of Darigaon and a supporter of the Nazim Uddin faction, sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. He succumbed to his injuries while being transported to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for emergency care. Two other individuals, identified as 28-year-old Raju and 60-year-old Mostafa, were also shot during the skirmish and have since been transferred to Dhaka for advanced medical treatment.
Local authorities, including Raipura Upazila Executive Officer Masud Rana and the Officer-in-Charge of Raipura Police Station, Majibur Rahman, arrived on the scene to restore order. The victim’s body remains at the Dhaka Medical College morgue as the investigation continues.

Residents noted that this latest bloodshed is rooted in a deep-seated feud that claimed another life on December 8, when Kuwait expatriate Mamun Mia was killed in a similar clash between the two factions, leaving at least 10 others injured.
Police have since deployed additional personnel to the area to prevent further violence. Probir Kumar Ghosh, the inspector of investigation at Raipura Police Station, confirmed that the situation has been brought under control and vowed to identify and prosecute all individuals responsible for the unrest.
