Notice to two leaders of Juba Dal in Rajshahi robbery of tender boxes

A show cause notice has been issued to two leaders of the Juba Dal in connection with the looting of the tender submission box at the Rajshahi Development Authority (RDA) office. They have been asked to appear in court within 24 hours and give a written explanation.

Two separate notices were issued by the Rajshahi Mahanagar Juba Dal on Tuesday evening. Those two leaders are Rajshahi Nagar Ward No. 18 (South) Youth Party convener Md. Azizul Islam is the joint convener of Dhalu and Ward No. 16 Jubo Dal.

The notice signed by Mahanagar Youth Dal member (attached to the office) Masudul Haque Mridha Momin said that a video related to the tender box in the RDA building has been published in various online media, which has come to the attention of the organization. The matter is being taken seriously as the incident is against the image and discipline of the party. Within 24 hours, the two accused leaders will have to appear before Mahanagar Jubo Dal convener Shariful Islam (Johnny) and member secretary Rafiqul Islam (Rabi) and give an explanation. Otherwise organizational measures will be taken as per the constitution.

Shariful Islam, convenor of Mahanagar Youth Dal, told Prothom Alo that there is no exemption for the party. No one will be spared if wrongdoing. An explanation has been asked within 24 hours. After that the final decision will be taken organizationally. He said that two people have been identified in the video footage and given a notice. If anyone else is involved, action will be taken against them too.

Earlier this morning at around 9:30 am, the RDA building was robbed of the tender submission box in the presence of the police. A few minutes later the box was recovered from the fourth floor of the same building. At that time, there was a fight between some youths who were in front of the building. Tension prevailed in the area till noon.

Eyewitnesses said that a group of 20-25 people suddenly entered the building and took away the box. In the CCTV footage, the leaders and workers of some wards of the Shahmakhdum police station and youth group can be seen.

RDA Assistant Engineer Sheikh Kamruzzaman said after the incident, the tender box was under police guard. Some rowdy youths came and forcibly took the box away. Later, within two minutes, they left on the fourth floor of the building.

RDA Chief Executive Officer (Deputy Secretary) Moshiur Rahman told Prothom Alo this evening that the case has not been filed yet. After the Chairman comes to Rajshahi, further steps will be taken in consultation. And there is an evaluation committee for tenders. They will take further decision regarding the tender.

According to RDA sources, on April 20, tenders were called for the auction sale of some abandoned and unusable goods. Today was the last day for submission of tenders. About 400 schedules were sold in the auction. According to RDA officials, the total value of the auctioned goods is around two and a half lakh taka.

Meanwhile, Rajshahi Mahanagar Swachhasevak Dal convener Mir Tarek said that he had heard about the involvement of the leaders of the Swachhasevak Dal in the incident. If anyone of the organization is involved in this, organizational action will be taken against them.

Kabir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Shahmakhdum police station in the city, said that no one had filed a complaint in the incident till evening. Complaints will be taken legal action.
