Nine-year-old boy dies of dengue at Gazipur hospital

A nine-year-old child died from dengue fever early Saturday morning while undergoing treatment at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur. The victim, Pulak Barma, was a resident of the Kapasia upazila.

According to hospital officials, the child initially developed a fever and received local medical care before his condition deteriorated, necessitating his transfer to the facility. He was admitted to the hospital on June 26, where he remained under close medical observation.

Dr. Salam Sarkar, deputy director of the hospital, confirmed that medical teams provided intensive care throughout the child’s hospitalization. Despite these efforts, his health continued to decline rapidly as his platelet count plummeted.

Hospital authorities reported that doctors made every possible effort to stabilize the patient, but were ultimately unable to save him. The death highlights the ongoing challenge posed by the dengue outbreak in the region.
