NCP suspends Feni leader over public brawl during central rally

The National Citizens’ Party (NCP) has initiated disciplinary action against two senior officials in Feni following a violent altercation that erupted during a central party program. Akbar Hossain, joint member secretary of the Feni district convening committee, has been temporarily suspended, while the district’s organizing secretary, Suja Uddin, has been issued a show-cause notice.
The disciplinary measures stem from a disruption on July 10 during the party’s “July March” rally in Sonagazi, Feni. The event, which was attended by central party leaders including lawmaker and southern region coordinator Hasnat Abdullah, was marred by repeated physical clashes among local leaders on stage and throughout the duration of the program.

According to a letter issued by Sadia Farzana Dina of the NCP central office, the decision to suspend Akbar Hossain was made under the directives of central convener Nahid Islam and member secretary Akhtar Hossain. Hossain has been instructed to provide a formal written explanation to the central disciplinary committee within three working days regarding why further, permanent action should not be taken against him for violating the party’s constitution and code of conduct.
Hossain has denied the allegations, claiming he is being unfairly targeted. He maintains that he was not involved in the chaos and suggested that the individuals truly responsible for the disturbance remain unidentified.

Meanwhile, Suja Uddin, who received his show-cause notice on Sunday, acknowledged the party’s move. As the primary organizer of the event, Uddin noted that the leadership’s inquiry into the security lapse is a procedural response to the public disorder. He confirmed that he intends to provide a formal written response to the central committee within the mandated three-day timeframe.
