Motorcyclist killed in Chittagong road accident blamed on poor infrastructure

A 25-year-old motorcyclist was killed late Friday night in Chittagong’s EPZ area after hitting a pothole and falling beneath the wheels of a moving container lorry. The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. near the Navy Hospital Gate, a section of the road that local witnesses describe as being in a state of severe disrepair.
The victim, identified as Md. Mehedi Hasan, was a resident of the city’s C&B area, originally hailing from Morelganj in Bagerhat. Hasan, who supported his wife and young son by operating a motorcycle for hire, was navigating the road when his vehicle reportedly lost control after striking a deep depression in the asphalt.

Witnesses at the scene noted that the road has been plagued by deep ruts, standing water, and accumulated waste for an extended period, creating hazardous conditions for motorists. Upon losing control of his motorcycle, Hasan was thrown into the path of a passing container lorry. The vehicle’s rear wheels struck the motorcyclist, resulting in fatal head trauma and immediate death at the site.
According to Md. Atikur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the EPZ Police Station, law enforcement recovered the body shortly after the accident. The remains were subsequently transported to the morgue at Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Authorities confirmed that the body will be released to the family following the completion of standard legal procedures.
