Mother and child killed in Dinajpur road accident

A mother and her three-year-old son were killed Tuesday morning when a speeding pickup truck struck their motorcycle on the Dhaka-Panchagarh highway in the Birganj upazila of Dinajpur.
The victims, identified as 28-year-old Fahima Akter and her son, Abdullah, from Malgram village in the Kaharol upazila, died at the scene. The motorcycle operator, 32-year-old Nazmul Islam, who is the husband of the deceased and the father of the child, sustained severe injuries and remains under medical care.
According to local reports, the family was traveling toward North Goreya in the Thakurgaon Sadar upazila for a medical appointment when the accident occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. near the Pachpir area. Authorities stated that a pickup truck transporting fish rear-ended their motorcycle, causing all three passengers to be thrown onto the roadway. The vehicle then ran over the mother and child, resulting in their immediate deaths.
Birganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam confirmed that officers responded to the scene after receiving an alert via the national emergency service, 999. Following the recovery of the bodies, police handed them over to the grieving family.
A formal case has been filed in connection with the incident. Law enforcement officials are currently reviewing evidence to identify and apprehend the driver of the pickup truck, who fled the scene immediately following the collision.
