Minority or guru—these words will no longer work in my constituency: Kaiser Kamal

Member of Parliament for Netrakona-1 (Kalmakanda-Durgapur) Constituency and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Kaiser Kamal said, “Before the election, we promised that there will be no discrimination between Garo, Hajong, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist or Christian.” People first – this identity is what we are working on. You voted for me as people, I am also working for people. So the words ‘minority’ or ‘guru’ will no longer work in my constituency at least.’

This member of parliament said this in a discussion meeting with the community at the premises of North Lengura Beltali Hajongpara Durga Mandir of Kalmakanda Upazila of Netrakona on Friday evening.

Stating that party-like-caste-religion-caste is not an issue, Deputy Speaker said, those who think positively about society, area and country, will work together. Because this country belongs to everyone. The country became independent in exchange of everyone’s blood in the war of liberation.

Pointing out that hundreds of thousands of Hajong people live in his constituency, Kaiser Kamal said that their language does not have its own alphabet. As the people of the community speak their own language less and less, it is slowly disappearing. So special initiatives are being taken to preserve the language. Initially, teachers will be appointed in three major temples in the Hajong-dominated areas of Rangchati, Lengura and Kharnai Union in Kalmakanda, to teach the Hajong language to children.

The Deputy Speaker said, “I don’t want this language to be lost.” So we are starting work to spread this language among the new generation. Because language is the lifeblood of culture, if it is lost, the lifeblood of a nation is lost.

Stating that the erosion-prone area of ​​Ganeshwari river from Beltali Kalimandir to Lengura Bazar has been visited, this member of parliament said that a plan has been taken to install CC blocks in the entire area to prevent river erosion. Repair work of vulnerable places will also be started soon. This work will be done by the people of Hajong community under the supervision of engineers.

Deputy Speaker’s Private Secretary Saiful Islam, Kalmakanda Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Mikail Islam, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mahmudul Hasan, Executive Engineer of Netrakona Water Development Board (Paubo) Sakhawat Hossain, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Mominul Islam, Lengura Union Parishad Chairman Saidur Rahman Bhuiyan, Rangchati Union Parishad Chairman Anichur Rahman Khan Pathan and other local dignitaries were also present in the meeting.
