Measles Outbreak Claims Four More Children as Total Death Toll Reaches 670

Four more children have died from symptoms associated with measles in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, bringing the national death toll to 670 since the outbreak began. According to the latest data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday, the total number of fatalities includes 577 children who exhibited measles-like symptoms and 93 cases confirmed as measles.
The most recent casualties occurred in the Sylhet, Dhaka, and Chittagong divisions, with two deaths reported in Sylhet and one each in Dhaka and Chittagong. Health authorities recorded 1,174 new cases of measles or related symptoms during the same 24-hour reporting period.

Hospital admissions continue to surge, with 972 individuals hospitalized across the country due to suspected infection. The Dhaka division remains the epicenter of the outbreak, accounting for 361 of the new hospitalizations, followed by 216 cases in Chittagong and 132 in Barisal. Meanwhile, 893 patients were discharged from hospitals following recovery.
Since the first case was identified on March 15, the outbreak has affected 90,982 people over the last 96 days. Of those, 75,156 have required hospitalization, while 10,869 cases have been officially confirmed as measles. To date, 71,396 patients have been treated and discharged from medical facilities.
