Man stabbed to death in Munshiganj over financial dispute

Police recovered the body of a 32-year-old man in the Josimnagar area of Munshiganj municipality on Sunday morning, following an apparent stabbing. The victim, identified as Arif Bepari, worked as a butcher’s assistant and was found by local residents in a field near his rented home at approximately 8:00 a.m.
Arif’s family has alleged that the killing is the culmination of a long-standing financial dispute involving his younger brother, Akash. According to relatives, Akash, also a butcher, had been seeking to recover a debt of 49,000 taka from a local trader named Nur Mohammad. The dispute reportedly intensified over the last six months, leading to a formal complaint being filed with the Munshiganj Sadar police.

Tensions escalated on Saturday when Akash and his associates detained Nur Mohammad, attempting to resolve the payment issue through the local butchers’ association. Witnesses claim that Enayet Hossain, an area resident, subsequently arrived at the market with a group of men to forcibly secure Nur Mohammad’s release. During the ensuing confrontation, Enayet was allegedly assaulted by local market traders.
Relatives of the deceased contend that Enayet and his followers threatened both Arif and Akash with death following the altercation at the market. They believe these individuals are directly responsible for Sunday morning’s attack.

Munshiganj Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Kamran Hossain stated that authorities are treating the death as a homicide fueled by previous enmity. Law enforcement officials visited the crime scene to gather evidence, and the body has been transferred to Munshiganj General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are actively searching for the suspects involved. Enayet Hossain could not be reached for comment as his mobile phone remained switched off.
