Education Minister intervenes to allow barred HSC candidates to take exams after registration failures

Education Minister A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milan has intervened to ensure that eight students in Natore are permitted to sit for their Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations following an administrative failure that initially barred them from the testing center. The students, enrolled at Abdulpur Government College in Lalpur, were denied entry to Thursday’s examinations despite having paid their registration fees on time.
The crisis emerged after it was discovered that Amit Kumar Sarkar, an office assistant at the college, had accepted the students’ examination fees but failed to deposit the funds with the education board. This negligence resulted in the students not receiving their admit cards, effectively blocking their participation in the start of the national exams. Upon learning of the situation through media reports, the Minister contacted the chairman of the Rajshahi Education Board, Shamim Ara Chowdhury, and directed that immediate corrective action be taken to allow the students to join the testing process.

In response to the Minister’s directive, the Rajshahi Education Board facilitated the emergency completion of the students’ registration requirements. Education Ministry officials confirmed that the affected students are now registered to begin their examinations on Saturday as regular candidates and will be granted appropriate accommodations for the paper they missed on Thursday.
Legal and departmental consequences have already commenced. The Minister coordinated with local law enforcement, including the Natore Superintendent of Police and the officer-in-charge of Lalpur Police Station, to ensure swift accountability. Police have since arrested Amit Kumar Sarkar, and formal legal proceedings against him are underway. Furthermore, the college administration has established a three-member investigation committee, led by Associate Professor of Chemistry Abdullah Al-Mahmud, to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident and recommend disciplinary action.

A similar administrative failure occurred in Bogura’s Sariakandi, where another student was barred from participating due to a registration number error, despite having submitted the required fees. Following a direct appeal to the Education Minister, officials were instructed to resolve the discrepancy immediately. That student has also been cleared to participate in the examinations starting Saturday.
