Lakshmipur primary school named best in Chittagong division for academic excellence and innovation

The West Angarpara Government Primary School in the Ramganj upazila of Lakshmipur has been named the best primary school in the Chattogram division, marking a significant milestone for the 139-year-old institution. Established in 1885 and located approximately 22 kilometers from the Lakshmipur district headquarters, the school was recognized for its exceptional performance in ensuring universal enrollment, maintaining high daily attendance, achieving a near-zero dropout rate, and fostering a culture of academic excellence.
A formal notification issued on June 4 by the Primary Education Medal Committee, signed by President Md. Zia Uddin and Member Secretary Fatema Meher Yasmin, solidified the school’s standing as the premier educational institution in the region. The campus stands out for its vibrant aesthetic, where walls are adorned with student murals and classrooms are named after national icons, including Kazi Nazrul Islam, Begum Rokeya, Shamsur Rahman, and Sufia Kamal.
The school currently serves 423 students under the guidance of 11 dedicated teachers. Beyond traditional rote learning, the curriculum emphasizes experiential education. Students are frequently taken into the field to observe environmental conditions, which they then document through creative illustrations. This hands-on approach extends to science education, which incorporates regular practical demonstrations to stimulate curiosity.
A unique feature of the institution is its dual-library system. A main facility houses over 700 books for students, while the “Ananda Pathagar,” a secondary library containing more than 150 volumes, is specifically designed to encourage reading habits among parents. This collaborative educational environment has produced remarkable results, including a 100 percent success rate in the 2022 primary scholarship examinations, where all 20 participants earned prestigious awards.
The school’s leadership is deeply rooted in its history. Headmaster A.K.M. Shamsul Islam Patwary, who was a student at the institution and a scholarship recipient in 1977, noted that the success stems from a healthy spirit of academic competition among students. By balancing rigorous academics with cultural programs and creative activities, the school has become a point of pride for the local community and a benchmark for educational standards across the district.
