‘Khana Mela’ started in Netrakona on Chaitra Sankranti

Today is the last day of Chaitra, the last month of Bengali year. With the sunrise, the mining fair started for the third time in Kendua Upazila of Netrakona this year. On the occasion of Chaitrasankranti, an organization called ‘Mangalghar Varan’ has organized a fair with local farmers and cultural workers in Angaroa village of the upazila to highlight the significance of mining in rural culture and agriculture.
Today Monday at 6 am, the fair was inaugurated with the song ‘Dugdh Ashram Ganga Bari, its three major beneficiaries’.

Talking to the local residents and organizers, it is known that the event will start with the sunrise today and the formalities of the fair will end tomorrow Tuesday with the sunrise of Paila Baisakh. Various items used in agriculture including Palagan, Kavita, Bowlgan, Kichchapala of rural culture are present in the fair. Apart from this, in this 24-hour long program, different genres of music, verses; Khanna has special discussions on agriculture, health, environment, life and astronomy.
Abul Kalam Al Azad, one of the organizers of the event, told Prothom Alo that Moushumi Bhowmik, a renowned singer and researcher of the subcontinent and renowned artist Kofil Ahmed, have arrived at the venue since yesterday to enjoy the fair. Under the direction of Kofil Ahmed, there will be special performances by the popular bands Sahazia, Samgeet, Chiya and Krishnakali along with folk songs and poetry. Apart from this, traditional Bioscope, Lantern Festival and special commemorative ‘Bhorer Hawa’ will be unveiled.

Abul Kalam Al Azad said, “We started this fair three years ago in Angaroa village. There is a new feeling in organizing the fair. He wrote poems about the daily activities of public life, rituals, agricultural culture, social reform and beliefs. Khana spoke about the inconsistencies of our society thousands of years ago through proverbs. These words of his are still significant in our public life. I invite everyone to enjoy this exceptional fair.
Today at six o’clock in the morning, I went to the fair and saw that local farmers, poets, writers, artists and people of various classes and professions came to the fair. Local bowler and rhymer Rahman Jiban said, ‘This fair has been started in our region for three years, containing the folk traditions and ancient agricultural knowledge of Bengal. Apart from local farmers, artists and culture lovers from home and abroad joined the event to enjoy the fair. Kula, pailla, dhuchan, scales, dhari, earthen pitcher, motki, sanki, dol, coin, rope, besides various paintings made of jute are displayed in the fair. Apart from this, farmers exchange indigenous seeds among themselves. This fair has now become the festival of our lives. I don’t know if there is such a fair anywhere in Bangladesh.
Sanwar Hossain, a college teacher from Jahangirpur area of Madan upazila of Netrokona, came to the fair on Sunday night. This morning he told Prothom Alo, ‘I have been coming to this fair since the beginning. The idea of a mining fair is interesting to me. The socio-economic facts related to human life, food, weather, were said by Khana. Coming to the fair, I got to know many new things about agriculture in Khanar Bachchan. Such fairs should be organized in different places.
A media communication company named ‘Cool Exposure’ is fully cooperating with Khanar Mela, which has started for the third time.
