Jagannath University resolves scholarship disbursement delays for remaining students

Jagannath University Vice-Chancellor Professor Md. Rais Uddin has pledged to resolve payment delays for a one-time special scholarship by the middle of next week, following concerns regarding the distribution of funds to over 1,800 students.

The assurance came during an emergency meeting held Thursday at the vice-chancellor’s office, which included university scholarship officials and representatives from the Agrani Bank branch serving the institution. The university had officially distributed scholarship checks to 10,124 students on June 11. While 8,302 recipients successfully received their funds, 1,822 students have faced prolonged delays in accessing their payments.

During the meeting, Professor Rais Uddin questioned the university’s scholarship department and bank officials regarding the failure to complete the transfers as scheduled. The administration noted that it had provided all necessary student data to Agrani Bank in a timely manner, delegating the responsibility of the fund transfers to the institution. The vice-chancellor instructed all parties to identify the specific causes of the administrative and technical bottlenecks to ensure that the remaining students receive their disbursements without further disruption.

Bank officials explained that the delays stem from a combination of technical complications and documentation errors. Specifically, transfers failed for 318 students holding Brac Bank accounts and 670 students using various other financial institutions due to inter-bank technical issues. Furthermore, approximately 770 students experienced errors related to their bank account numbers, routing numbers, or other essential data.

University ICT cell and scholarship officials confirmed they are working in close coordination with Agrani Bank to rectify these discrepancies. The administration expressed confidence that the remaining funds will be deposited into student accounts by next Tuesday.

To address student anxieties, the university’s scholarship department issued an official notification detailing the steps being taken to resolve the issue. University Treasurer Professor Sabina Sharmin, Registrar Professor Sheikh Md. Gias Uddin, and Director of Finance and Accounts Professor Sheikh Rafiqul Islam were also present during the meeting to oversee the remedial actions.
