In Rangpur, a young man was tortured by hand and foot on the charge of theft, later rescued by the police

In Rangpur, a youth was allegedly tied up and tortured and his hair cut off for theft. This incident happened in front of Caspia Hotel in the city on Monday morning. After about eight hours, the police rescued the young man with his hands and feet tied.
Rifatur Rahman (31), a victim of torture, is a resident of New Jummapara in Rangpur Nagar. According to eyewitnesses, he was arrested by the night watchmen of Caspia Hotel on charges of theft yesterday Sunday afternoon. At night he was tied inside the hotel and outside in the morning on a staircase with a thick rope from his feet to his waist. His hands were tied with electric wires.
Shahid Akhtar, manager of Caspia Hotel, told Prothom Alo, ‘About nine AC pipes were stolen from our establishment. Stolen generator batteries. Many have stolen it. Yesterday too, an AC pipe was caught red-handed.
On Monday around 11 o’clock, it was seen that Rifatur was still tied. There were marks of torture on his body. Rifatur said, “I made a mistake, sir.” I don’t get it. I didn’t get anything.’
Some of the witnesses told Prothom Alo that Salma Akhtar, the owner of Dream Touch Beauty Parlor under Caspia Hotel, cut the young man’s hair with scissors after 10 o’clock in the morning. Some videos of this incident have come to light. Apart from Salma, another person can be seen getting a haircut in the video. Some cut hairs were also found lying there.
Salma claims that two of her ACs were stolen earlier. About cutting hair, he said, “If I don’t cut my hair, what will I do?” He is selling 200 rupees, how much is the loss now? He did not see that it was causing such great damage to me. Did you see the haircut?
Rifatur was rescued by the police of Kotwali police station in Rangpur metropolis around 11:30 am. At that time, Kotwali Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Jewel Mia said, “He has injuries on his body. Taking for treatment. It is definitely inappropriate. If you catch a thief, no one can kill you. There is a legal process. No one has the power to take the law into their own hands. Now that he is injured we will take him to the hospital and give first aid. If they want to take legal action, they will file a case, I will take a case.
