10 Injured, Including Volunteer Leader, in Sudden Gun Attack in Kushtia’s Daulatpur

KUSHTIA — At least 10 people, including a local volunteer group leader and his elderly father, were shot and injured after an armed group launched a sudden attack in the Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia late last night.

The incident occurred around 11:30 PM in the Majdiar area of Moricha Union. The victims were rescued by locals and rushed to Kushtia General Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Ambushed During a Power Outage

According to police and local sources, Robiul Islam (36), the convenor of the Moricha Union Volunteer Team, was walking in front of his house due to a local power outage. Under the cover of darkness, an armed gang of 10 to 15 miscreants suddenly ambushed him.

Hearing Robiul’s screams, his parents, family members, and nearby neighbors rushed to his aid. In response, the attackers opened fire indiscriminately into the crowd before rapidly fleeing the scene.

The Injured Victims

The ten bullet-hit individuals have been identified as:

  • Robiul Islam (36) – Volunteer group leader (reported to be in serious condition)
  • Hafez Pramanik (70) – Robiul’s father
  • Sohail Rana (45)
  • Kamrul Islam (37)
  • Tauhidul Islam (30) and his wife Marina Khatun (25)
  • Tama Khatun (26)
  • Munni Khatun (24)
  • Runa Khatun (27)
  • Mita Khatun (30)

Motive Remains Unclear

Speaking from the hospital, Robiul’s uncle, Liaqat Ali, expressed complete shock over the ambush, stating that the family had no known enmities.

“We have no idea why this attack happened or who was behind it. My nephew did not have any ongoing disputes with anyone. They just opened fire on everyone who ran out to help him.”

Police Response

Upon receiving reports of the gunfire, a team from the Daulatpur Police Station immediately deployed to the spot to restore order and secure the neighborhood.

“Several rounds of shots were fired last night in Moricha Union, leaving ten people injured. Robiul Islam sustained the most severe injuries,” said Arifur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station.

OC Rahman added that the motive behind the attack has not yet been established. Police investigators are currently on the ground working to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, and a formal case is being filed at the police station.
