Human chain demanding resignation of Vice-Chancellor-Treasurer in Comilla University, ‘Student group’ behind

In Comilla University, human chain and press conference were held for various demands including resignation of Vice-Chancellor, Treasurer. These demands were raised in a human chain organized under the banner of ‘Conscious Students’ at the university roundabout today on Wednesday afternoon. Later, the university branch students held a press conference in front of the administrative building.

General students said that Chhatra Dal was behind the program organized under the banner of ‘Aware students’ and most of the people who spoke in the human chain were affiliated with Chhatra Dal.

The students participating in the human chain alleged that the present administration is ‘communalizing’ the university under the guise of neutrality. They demanded a fair investigation of corruption in the appointment of teachers, officials and employees from 2009 to 12 February 2026 and publication of the report of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). At the same time, the demand for improving the quality of food in the residential halls was also raised.

Later, the convener of the university students’ party Abdullah Al Mamun and member secretary Mostafizur Rahman addressed the press conference organized in front of the administrative building. They demanded the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor and Treasurer, alleging bias in the appointment of teachers and staff, irregularities in tenders and organizing the recruitment board outside the university.

In the press conference, 9 points of demand were highlighted. These include the arrest of the Vice-Chancellor, the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor and the Treasurer, the release of the recent recruitment inquiry report, the progress of the ACC investigation, the removal of the Proctoral Body and ensuring the safety and accommodation of students.

However, Vice-Chancellor Haider Ali denied these allegations. This afternoon he told Prothom Alo that he did not compromise with any irregularities during his duties. He claimed that the Chhatra Dal is trying to make the university administration controversial by making false and fabricated allegations. He is ready to explain the responsibility when the new vice chancellor is appointed.
