Hanging body found in Manikganj: ‘They are hanging my husband on the log of Myra fan’

It has been alleged that before the hanging body of a youth named Krishna Rajbanshi (35) was recovered from the office of the management committee of a market in Manikganj Sadar Upazila, 40 thousand taka was demanded from his family. The family claims that for not paying the money, Krishna was severely beaten by the people of the committee and he died as a result.
Krishna’s wife Yamuna Rani Rajbanshi made this complaint to the mediapersons at her house in Bandutia Majhipara Mohalla of Manikganj Municipal area on Thursday around 11 o’clock. Apart from this, some neighbors also complained about the same.

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, the hanging body of Krishna Rajbansi was recovered from the management committee office of Tara Bazar in Sadar Upazila.
Jamuna Rani said that her husband was detained in the Tara Bazar Management Committee office and beaten yesterday on suspicion of stealing fish. Yesterday at around 9:30 am, two men on a motorcycle came to their house and asked to take 40 thousand taka to extort Krishna. It was not possible for the poor family to collect that money.

Jamuna Rani claims, later she herself went to the market committee office. He went there and saw his husband being beaten. At this stage of the speech, Jamuna Rani said in a tearful voice, ‘We are poor people. Pamu bride so much? I went to that office crying, Tago (committee people) holding my feet. Still beating my husband. How much Kailam, you give him to the police, not even! They are hanging my husband from the mira fan, making me a widow, orphaning my two cousins. I want to be punished.
Krishna Rajvanshi is the son of Khudiram Rajvanshi of Bandutia Majhipara Mohalla of Manikganj town area. He used to pull nets and fish in different people’s ponds. Sometimes they used to unload fish from the truck in the market. He has a son and a daughter.
Krishna’s cousin Lalchan Rajvanshi said that Krishna was beaten to death because he could not pay the money demanded to release him.
According to police and local sources, Krishna left the house early Wednesday morning. In the morning, he and another person were arrested by the market committee on the charge of stealing fish. Later the others were released but Krishna was detained in the office. Local people found his body hanging from the fan inside the office at noon.
It is alleged that some members of the market committee tried to remove the body after the incident came to light. They moved away in the face of local obstacles. Later, the police recovered the body and sent it to Manikganj Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Since the incident, they are the president of the market management committee. The accused persons including Ibrahim have covered their heads. Several attempts were made to contact him on his mobile regarding the complaint, but he did not respond.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar police station. Ikram Hossain said that the body was handed over to the family after the autopsy. A case is being prepared against some people on the charge of incitement to suicide in this incident.
