Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan said that the current government will not allow any crime against humanity committed in the country to go unnoticed. He said, “From the massacre of the Great War of Liberation in 1971 to the massacre of Shapla Chatwar in 2013 – all are crimes against humanity.” The government led by Tariq Rahman is determined to ensure justice for all these injustices and atrocities.

The information minister said this while addressing the chief guest at the unveiling of the commemorative book ‘Shahidnama’, documentary film screening and prize distribution ceremony at the National Museum Auditorium in Shahbag yesterday afternoon. Shapla Smriti Sangsad organizes this event.

The information minister said, “The horrific memory of the Shapla Chattar massacre still pains us today. In its first session, the current National Parliament paid official respect and condolence to all the martyrs of Shapla Chattar. Through this, we have given a message to the nation that our government will not allow any crime which is unjust, which is brutal.’

Recalling the context of May 5, 2013, Zahir Uddin Swapan said that when the then fascist government was obstructing the faith movement and using the media to create false statements, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia bravely stood by the rally as the guardian of the people.

The Information Minister said, ‘BNP was the first political party to call a two-day hartal after identifying this incident as genocide. Later, hundreds of cases were filed to blame the incident on BNP due to political revenge. 90 percent of which are accused of the BNP and the top leaders and activists of the organization.

The Information Minister also said that the popular uprising of August 5, 2024 has proved that the blood of people from all walks of life is mixed in the anti-fascist movement.
