Former Natore Government Pleader Critically Injured in Targeted Office Assault

A 72-year-old lawyer was hospitalized in critical condition on Monday after being brutally assaulted by an assailant disguised as a monk in Natore. The victim, Asadul Islam, a former government pleader during the previous Awami League administration, suffered severe injuries, including multiple fractures to his limbs and blunt force trauma to his head.

The attack occurred shortly before 1:00 p.m. at Islam’s private legal chambers. According to eyewitnesses, the assailant, identified as Kabil Hossain, entered the office wearing saffron robes and immediately launched a ferocious assault using a metal rod. The suddenness and intensity of the violence shocked the scores of litigants and legal professionals present in the building.

Fellow attorney Mrinmoy Kumar Ghosh, who rushed to the scene after hearing cries for help, described the ferocity of the attack, noting that the assailant struck with such force that the metal rod eventually broke. Other lawyers and staff members managed to intervene, subduing the attacker before handing him over to local authorities.

Islam was rushed to Natore Sadar Hospital in critical condition. Dr. Mahbubur Rahman, the residential medical officer at the hospital, confirmed that the victim underwent emergency surgery on his fractured hands and legs. He remains under medical observation, and doctors have requested a CT scan to assess the full extent of his head injuries.

During preliminary questioning by police, the suspect confessed that the assault was motivated by a personal grievance. Hossain reportedly targeted the senior lawyer due to a civil lawsuit that Islam had recently filed.

District Bar Association President Ruhul Amin Talukdar condemned the attack, characterizing it as a deliberate attempt on the lawyer’s life. He stated that the bar association is preparing to file a formal case against the suspect. Natore Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mansur Rahman confirmed that the suspect remains in police custody and that an investigation into the motive and circumstances of the attack is currently underway.
