Double Derailment Suspends Rail Traffic Between Mymensingh, Dhaka and Jamalpur

Rail services between Dhaka and Mymensingh, as well as the Mymensingh-Jamalpur route, have been suspended following a pair of train derailments on Wednesday morning. Authorities confirmed that no passengers were injured in the incidents.
The initial disruption occurred at approximately 9:12 a.m. near the Ananda Mohan College rail crossing in Mymensingh, when the power car of the Dhaka-bound Brahmaputra Express—originating from Dewanganj—jumped the tracks. While the power car remained stranded, the remainder of the train, consisting of nine carriages, managed to pull into the station.

In an effort to clear the line and restore service, railway officials dispatched a relief train from the Mymensingh loco shed. However, the recovery operation faltered when the rescue train itself derailed near the Krishtopur area, just before reaching the Mymensingh Junction station.
Mymensingh Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Aktar Hossain confirmed the collapse of transit operations across the affected corridors. Efforts to re-rail the equipment and normalize train traffic are underway, though officials have cautioned that the recovery process will require significant time.
