Customs officials seize 19 kilograms of gold from Biman Bangladesh aircraft in Dhaka

Customs officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka seized approximately 19 kilograms of gold from a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight on Thursday morning. The recovery was made following a joint operation involving customs personnel and military intelligence.
The flight, identified as BG-148, arrived in Dhaka from Dubai via Chittagong at approximately 10:30 a.m. During a thorough inspection of the aircraft’s cargo hold, authorities discovered 160 gold bars wrapped in adhesive tape.
Kamrul Hasan, additional commissioner of the Dhaka Custom House, confirmed that the seized bullion weighed 18.7 kilograms and carries an estimated market value of 420 million taka.
The gold bars were found abandoned within the cargo area, with no immediate suspects taken into custody. Authorities have initiated legal proceedings at the airport police station as the investigation into the smuggling attempt continues.
