Crowds breached security barricades at the University of Dhaka on Sunday night, forcing their way into the campus to watch the football World Cup final despite administrative efforts to restrict access. Witnesses reported that individuals swarmed past checkpoints near the Nilkhet gate and the Shahbag police station, overwhelming personnel tasked with maintaining order.

Members of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) stationed at the gates told local media that the influx of outsiders quickly became unmanageable. As the volume of people swelled, the crowd acted in unison to dismantle the barriers and gain entry to the university grounds.

The administration had previously announced strict measures to curb the entry of non-students and vehicles throughout the duration of the final match. In a notice issued on Saturday, officials stated that movement would be restricted from Sunday evening until 6:00 a.m. Monday to ensure the safety of students and preserve the security of the campus.

Multiple attempts to reach Dhaka University Proctor Israfil Ratan for comment regarding the security breach were unsuccessful.
