Court Orders Seizure of Tax Documents for 10 Individuals Including Nasrul Hamid, Meher Afroze
A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of income tax documents belonging to former state minister Nasrul Hamid and nine other individuals, including former state minister Meher Afroze, Zahid Ahsan Russel, and Zakir Hossain.
The order was issued on Sunday by Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabir Foyez following separate applications filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). A bench assistant at the relevant court confirmed the information to Prothom Alo.
The other individuals whose tax documents are subject to seizure include Nasrul Hamid’s wife, Seema Hamid, and son, Zarif Hamid, former Member of Parliament Sheikh Helal Uddin, his wife Sheikh Rupa Chowdhury, former Health Minister Mohammed Nasim’s son, Tamal Monsur, and former Chief Whip Nur-e-Alam Chowdhury’s wife, Zeenat Parveen Chowdhury.
The ACC’s applications stated that investigation officers have been appointed to probe allegations against these ten individuals. Preliminary findings have revealed information suggestive of punishable offenses. The seizure of their income tax documents is deemed necessary for a fair investigation.
