A Cumilla court has ordered fresh DNA profiling for two additional suspects in the ongoing investigation into the 2016 murder of college student Sohagi Jahan Tonu. The directive mandates that these new samples be cross-referenced with biological evidence retrieved from the victim’s clothing to identify potential matches. Among the two individuals recently identified for testing is a former member of the military.

Sohagi Jahan Tonu, a student at Cumilla Victoria Government College, disappeared on the evening of March 20, 2016, while traveling to a private tutoring session within the Cumilla Cantonment area. Her body was discovered hours later, sparking national outrage and a prolonged search for those responsible for her death. The case has remained a subject of intense public scrutiny, with the new court-ordered testing marking a significant, albeit delayed, step in the pursuit of justice for the victim’s family.
