Eid-ul-Fitr holidays have transformed Chittagong into a bustling hub for tourists, as residents flock to the city’s diverse landscape of coastal vistas, verdant hills, and serene lakes. As the city offers a unique geographical blend of mountain ranges on one side and the Bay of Bengal on the other, locals and visitors alike are capitalizing on the break to explore both established landmarks and natural retreats.
The Patenga Sea Beach remains the city’s primary draw, offering visitors expansive walkways, well-appointed food courts, and vibrant lighting that illuminates the shoreline after dusk. Access to the beach has been streamlined through both the Muradpur-Agrabad route and the scenic Marine Drive, which allows travelers to enjoy coastal views throughout the journey. Similarly, the Parki Beach in Anwara has seen a surge in popularity following the inauguration of the Karnaphuli Tunnel, which significantly reduced travel time for those seeking the quiet charm of its casuarina forests and local coastal delicacies.

For those preferring terrestrial beauty, the Bhatiary Sunset Point provides a picturesque vantage point where the sun dips behind the hills, casting a golden hue over the adjacent lake. Nearby, the Foy’s Lake Amusement Park has ramped up its holiday offerings, featuring a comprehensive suite of attractions ranging from family roller coasters to the “Basecamp” adventure zone, which includes kayaking and tree-top activities. The adjacent Sea World water park, equipped with wave pools and multi-slide zones, remains a central destination for families. According to Foy’s Lake complex manager Bishwajit Ghosh, management has implemented extensive preparations to accommodate the holiday rush, with the facility opening its gates for extended hours starting from the second day of Eid.
Wildlife enthusiasts are also converging on the Chittagong Zoo, which houses approximately 520 animals across 70 species. Deputy Curator Md. Shahadat Hossain noted that while visitor numbers are traditionally moderate on the day of Eid, the venue expects a substantial increase in footfall thereafter, particularly among children and young adults. The zoo has bolstered security and maintenance protocols to manage the influx of holidaymakers.

Beyond the immediate city limits, the surrounding regions offer a wealth of natural exploration. Adventurers are venturing toward the Sitakunda Eco-Park, the Mahamaya Lake, and a series of rugged waterfall trails, including Khaiya Chhara, Shuptadhara, and Sahasradhara. For a more secluded experience, the Hazarikhil Sanctuary in Fatikchhari and the expansive blue waters of Kaptai Lake provide tranquil alternatives for those seeking to escape the urban sprawl.
Reflecting on the importance of these excursions, renowned mountaineer Babar Ali, the first Bangladeshi to summit five peaks over 8,000 meters, emphasized the therapeutic value of nature. He noted that stepping outside one’s routine to immerse oneself in mountains, forests, or coastal environments is essential for mental well-being. According to Ali, travel serves as more than mere entertainment; it is a vital tool for stress relief, perspective, and strengthening the bonds between families and friends.
