Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Shahadat Hossain has ordered the immediate demolition of a precarious two-story mud house in the Dewanbazar area following reports of structural failure caused by days of relentless rainfall. The directive was issued Saturday afternoon during an emergency site inspection by the mayor, who warned that the building’s deteriorating condition poses an imminent threat to public safety.

The structure, situated in the city’s Rumghata neighborhood, had developed severe, gaping cracks across its walls as the persistent downpour softened the foundation. During the inspection, Mayor Hossain emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that the building could collapse at any moment and potentially cause significant harm to neighboring residents and passersby.

Local residents reported that the mud-constructed house had shown signs of instability for some time, but the recent weather patterns accelerated the structural decay. In response to the growing danger, local authorities have posted warning signs around the perimeter of the property to alert the public that the site is officially classified as a hazardous structure.

Following the mayor’s intervention, the property owner committed to complying with the municipal order. They informed city officials that arrangements are being finalized to safely remove the damaged walls and dismantle the structure to prevent a catastrophic accident.
