Child drowned in diesel stored in drum at home in Gaibandha

A child named Araf Mia (2) died after drowning in diesel stored in a drum in Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha. The child died early Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, Araf was taken to the hospital as he fell ill after drowning in diesel stored in a drum. The child Araf Mia is the son of Babu Mia of Palanpara village in Sadullapur upazila. Mehdi Hasan, a member of Thaperhat Union Parishad confirmed the truth of the incident.

Local residents said that Babu Mia has a tractor. The diesel tank of that tractor has leaked. Tank sent to mechanic for repair. For that, all the diesel in the tank is stored in a cut drum on the porch of the house. The drum contained about 50 liters of diesel, without a lid. At around 4:30 pm yesterday, the child Araf suddenly fell into the diesel drum and drowned without the family being aware of it. Later he was rescued and taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition. He died early this morning while undergoing treatment there.
