Police in Khulna discovered the bodies of a 55-year-old woman and her two grandsons inside a rented apartment in the Sonadanga area on Saturday evening. The victims, identified as Baby Begum, 13-year-old Shamim Bepari, and four-year-old Mustakim, were found in a home on Tamizuddin Road in the Darus Aman neighborhood, sparking an investigation into a suspected familicide rooted in domestic strife.

Local authorities were alerted after neighbors reported a foul odor emanating from the residence on Saturday afternoon. Upon arrival, officers from the Sonadanga Police Station, supported by the Detective Branch and CID forensic teams, secured the scene to collect evidence. While the bodies of Baby Begum and Shamim were recovered first, investigators discovered Mustakim’s body hidden inside a locked wardrobe after forced entry.

Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Jahidul Hasan indicated that preliminary investigations point toward the involvement of Rafiqul Islam, the second husband of the children’s mother, Fatema Begum. Shamim and Mustakim were the children of Fatema Begum’s first marriage to Masum Bepari, a relationship that ended in divorce four years ago.

Rafiqul Islam, a truck driver from the city’s Daulatpur area, has been missing since the discovery of the bodies. Police have taken Fatema Begum into custody for questioning to determine her potential knowledge of the incident or the whereabouts of the suspect.
