BGB Increases Patrols and Issues Public Warnings Along Brahmanbaria Border to Curb Illegal Crossings and Smuggling

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified patrols and launched public awareness campaigns along the Brahmanbaria frontier to curb illegal border crossings, drug trafficking, and smuggling. The increased security measures, which include nightly patrols and localized public address announcements, are focused on the districts bordering India’s Tripura state.
The surveillance efforts are being conducted by the BGB’s 25th (Sarail) and 60th (Sultanpur) battalions. These units oversee approximately 73 kilometers of the border spanning the Kasba, Akhaura, and Bijoynagar upazilas. As reported to local media, the initiative was spurred by the need to prevent unauthorized entries and the illicit movement of contraband into Bangladeshi territory.

Operating under the directive to maintain strict border integrity, BGB personnel have been conducting regular warnings via loudspeakers. These announcements explicitly caution residents and travelers against crossing the border illegally, noting that anyone found in violation will face immediate legal consequences. The broadcasts emphasize that BGB forces maintain a heightened state of alert to prevent any untoward incidents in the border region.
Lt. Col. Jabbar Ahmed, commander of the 25th BGB battalion, stated that intensified operations have been ongoing for the past week across the 49.2 kilometers of border under his jurisdiction. Similarly, Lt. Col. S. M. Shariful Islam of the 60th BGB battalion confirmed that his forces have been executing coordinated patrols and public warnings over the last several days.

Military officials maintain that these proactive measures are intended to deter criminal activity and ensure that all residents in the border areas remain vigilant. The BGB remains in a fortified position, monitoring the frontier around the clock to uphold national security and enforce border regulations.
