Bangladesh Sends 500 Kilograms of Mangoes to West Bengal as Goodwill Gesture

The Bangladeshi government has dispatched 500 kilograms of premium mangoes to the Indian state of West Bengal as a gesture of diplomatic goodwill. The shipment, consisting of the popular Amrapali and Haribhanga varieties, crossed the Benapole land port in Jashore on Tuesday evening and was formally handed over to representatives of the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata.

Organized into 100 cartons, the shipment is part of an annual tradition that serves as a cornerstone of “mango diplomacy” between the two nations. According to officials at the Benapole Checkpost Plant Quarantine Center, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated the delivery to underscore the spirit of friendship and bilateral cooperation.

The distribution plan allocates 100 kilograms of the fruit specifically for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The remaining 400 kilograms are earmarked for distribution among other senior government officials, diplomats, and prominent public figures across the state.

The initiative is viewed as a symbolic effort to strengthen cultural and diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and West Bengal. By sharing one of its most prized agricultural exports, the Bangladeshi government aims to reinforce the cordial relations that define the cross-border partnership.
