Bangladesh reports over 1,500 flu cases in 24 hours, six children die

Six more children have died from measles or suspected measles in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, according to data released by the Directorate General of Health Services on Sunday. One of the deceased children had confirmed measles, while the other five exhibited symptoms.

During the same period, health authorities reported an additional 1,274 suspected measles cases nationwide, with 243 confirmed diagnoses. The total number of children affected by measles or its symptoms now stands at 1,517.

The confirmed measles death occurred in Barisal. Suspected measles claimed the lives of three children in Dhaka, one in Sylhet, and one in Mymensingh.

Since March 15, the country has recorded a total of 384 deaths linked to measles symptoms and 75 deaths from confirmed measles cases, bringing the total fatalities to 459.

The Directorate General of Health Services also indicated that since March 15, 57,846 children have presented with measles symptoms. Of these, 42,092 were admitted to hospitals, and 37,744 have since recovered and been discharged. In total, 7,767 children have been diagnosed with measles during this period.
