Bangladesh Reinstates Israel Travel Ban on Passports and Adds July Uprising Commemorations

The Bangladeshi government has reinstated the phrase “except Israel” on its national passports, reversing a policy change implemented six years ago under the previous administration. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued an official directive on Sunday confirming the restoration of the travel restriction, which prohibits citizens from using the document to travel to Israel.
In addition to the policy shift regarding travel to Israel, the government is introducing updated designs for new e-passports. These documents will now feature watermarks commemorating the “July Mass Uprising 2024,” including portraits of notable student movement figures Abu Sayed, Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho, and Wasim Akram.

The updated passport design is intended to reflect the nation’s cultural and political identity. Alongside the commemorative imagery, the documents will incorporate symbols representing various religious faiths, as well as depictions of national landmarks and prominent natural landscapes.
