Bangladesh Government to Allocate 500 Million Taka to Lawmakers for Local Infrastructure Development

The Bangladeshi government is set to launch a new development initiative that will grant members of parliament significant autonomy over local infrastructure projects. Under a proposed plan, each lawmaker will be allocated 500 million taka to be utilized for the improvement of roads and rural infrastructure within their respective constituencies.
The funding is designed to be disbursed in annual increments of 100 million taka over a five-year period, allowing parliamentarians to prioritize and execute development projects according to their specific local requirements. This move is intended to streamline the implementation of constituency-level works by providing direct oversight to elected representatives.

To facilitate this allocation, the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) has drafted a project proposal titled “Development of Important Rural Infrastructure (Division-wise).” This proposal has already been forwarded to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives for formal review and approval. Once finalized, the initiative will provide a dedicated financial framework for new parliamentarians to address urgent infrastructure needs in their areas.
