Armed Robbers Target Two Women Returning Home in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur Area

Two women returning to Dhaka following the Eid-ul-Adha holiday were confronted and robbed at knifepoint early Sunday morning in the capital’s Mohammadpur neighborhood. The incident, which has since circulated widely on social media, occurred around 3 a.m. on Nurjahan Road.

According to statements provided to the police, the victims had traveled by bus from Thakurgaon to Shyamoli before hiring a rickshaw to complete their journey home. As they stepped out of the vehicle and gathered their belongings at the entrance of their residence, two assailants approached them. One of the attackers, captured on surveillance footage wearing a black shirt, a lungi, and a cap, brandished a machete to intimidate the women while his accomplice assisted in seizing their luggage and personal bags.

Mohammadpur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Rakibuzzaman Rakib confirmed the details of the robbery to Prothom Alo, noting that the victims were targeted immediately upon arriving at their doorstep.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the assault. Inspector Rakib confirmed that law enforcement has successfully identified one of the primary suspects involved in the crime and stated that active efforts are underway to apprehend the individual.
