Talked to him around 11:30 this Sunday. Mohammad Alam is disoriented with the child’s examination list in hand. He said that three days ago he admitted the sick child to the hospital. Doctors gave various tests; Most of the tests have to be done in private labs. About 12 to 13 thousand rupees have been spent.

Mohammad Alam is a resident of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila. His wife Chenwara Begum said that earlier this month, Suraiya was in the ICU in Cox’s Bazar due to fever. He recovered there. Then he was admitted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital when he developed fever three days ago. From there they brought Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Doctors said that 75 percent of the children who were admitted to the hospital with measles symptoms in different hospitals of Chittagong had pneumonia-related complications. The picture of Chittagong Medical College Hospital is almost the same. All infants admitted to the pediatric ICU with symptoms were reported to have pneumonia complications. Their condition is critical.
124 children were admitted with measles and measles symptoms in Chittagong Medical College Hospital till 3 o’clock in the child health department, measles block and PICU. Among them, 17 children were admitted to ICU. In 24 hours, 7 children died of pneumonia due to measles symptoms in this hospital. At this time, 19 children were newly admitted to the child health department.
Mohammad Sumon, a resident of Bayezid area of Chittagong city, was standing in front of the children’s ICU in Chittagong Medical College Hospital. He said, “9-month-old son Farhan has been in the hospital for 8 days. We are continuing this medicine with great difficulty. The child’s physical condition is not good. I used to shop. I have incurred a lot of debt to pay for medical expenses. However, I want the child to be healthy.
Chittagong Medical College Hospital’s Children’s Health Department and Measles Block now have the same picture. Some have a feverish child in their arms, some are waiting for oxygen, some are running from one ward to another with test reports. The anxiety of the relatives is increasing with the suffering of the children. Sighing in the eyes of the parents watching helplessly.
Farhana Jerin, assistant registrar of the hospital’s child health department, told Prothom Alo that it is not certain whether the dead children had measles or not. They had pneumonia with measles symptoms. Most of the children are brought to the hospital in serious condition. As a result, ICU support is needed immediately. The physical condition of the children in the ICU is critical.
