Accused father and son jailed for chaining up easybike driver in Mymensingh and demanding ransom

The police have arrested a father and son on the charge of demanding a ransom of Tk 50,000 after chaining an easybike driver for three days in Mymensingh’s Dhobaura. They were sent to jail by the court on Friday afternoon.

Earlier on Thursday evening, the easy bike driver was rescued while chained. In this incident, the victim’s wife filed a case at the police station that same day and night.

The arrested persons are Md. Samchul Alam (23) and his father Azharul Islam (45). They are residents of Darsha Harchandrapur village of Dhobaura upazila. Samchul used to ride Easybike in Dhaka. The rescued easybike driver. Babul Mia (30) is a resident of East Taraikandi village of Dhobaura upazila. He also used to drive Easybike in Dhaka.

According to police sources, Babul Miah was recently sent by Samchul to fetch a shipment of narcotic ganja from Comilla. Babul claimed that the consignment of ganja was seized from him on the way by law enforcement forces and he was released. He came to Samchul and told this, but he did not believe it. A dispute started between the two.

The police also said that after the incident on May 18, Samchul Alam brought Babul Miya to his house in Darsha Harchandrapur village of Dhobaura. Babul’s two legs were chained in a room of the house and started beating him. From the 19th, Babul’s family started demanding Tk 50,000 as ransom. Babul’s family members reported the matter to the police station and the police raided Samchul’s house on Thursday evening. At this time, Babul Mia was rescued while being chained. Police arrested Samchhul and his father in this incident. On Thursday night, Babul’s wife Champa Akhter Samchhul and his father Azharul filed a case in Dhobaura police station.
