A young tourist has gone missing while bathing in the Matamuhuri river at Lamay in Bandarban. The accident took place at Sada Pathar area, about 10 km from the upazila headquarters, on the downstream side of the Matamuhuri river on Thursday afternoon.

The name of the missing tourist is Abdul Wadud (19). Police said he is a resident of Agrabad area of ​​Chittagong. The fire service could not rescue him till four in the afternoon. A diving team is going to Bandarban from Chittagong to rescue him.

Lama Fire Service and local people said that in the afternoon a group of 10-12 youth from Chittagong came to visit the Sada Pathar area of ​​Lama. Later, they left their bags in the resort’s pre-rented room and bathed in the river. At this time, Abdul Wadud fell into the river. The fire service was later informed.

The member secretary of Lama Residential Hotel and Vacation Center Owners Association said that Sada Pathar area is located downstream of Matamuhuri River and about 10 kilometers from Lama Upazila Sadar. That is where the young tourist went missing. The picturesque place with white stone hills, river bends and greenery on the banks of the river is very attractive for tourists. Both resident and non-resident tourists go there. Tourists have drowned in the river due to carelessness.

Fire service station official Mohammad Abdullah said that the diving team is coming from Chittagong to rescue the missing Abdul Wadud. They will carry out rescue operations.

Lama Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Shahjahan Kamal said that work is underway to rescue the missing tourist. His relatives in Chittagong have been informed.
