According to local sources, on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, VGF rice is allocated to the imams and muezzins of the municipal areas. However, questions have been raised as the rice was stored in the former councilor’s own house instead of being stored in the government warehouse or the designated place of the municipality.

General Secretary of Upazila BNP Sanjay Saha said that government aid rice is to be distributed among the poor and the servants of religious institutions. But that rice was found in the house of a former councillor. The matter should be properly investigated and action should be taken against the responsible persons.

Former councilor Abdus Samad Khan denied the allegations and said, “Every year the rice of the imams and muezzins is brought to my house.” I have no personal connection with it. Attempts are being made to harass and frame me politically.

Saheb Ali, general secretary of Boalmari Imam Parishad, said that around three o’clock rice was brought from the municipality and kept at Samad Khan’s house. It was supposed to be distributed to imams and muezzins next Monday. But later the administration people came and took away the rice.

Shibbir Ahmed, Magistrate of the mobile court, said that a total of 630 kg of rice was recovered in 12 sacks by raiding on the basis of secret information. The rice has been handed over to the municipality. The process of filing a regular case is going on in this incident.
