Another 10 children have been admitted to hospital with symptoms of measles in Kurukpata Union of Alikadam Upazila of Bandarban. These 10 children were brought today till 12 noon on Friday. A total of 31 children have been admitted to the hospital with symptoms of measles from Kurukpata Union. Out of this 27 children are in Alikadam Upazila Health Complex and four children are in Lama Health Complex.

Alikadam Upazila Health Center senior staff nurse Mamunur Rashid said that the pressure of the patient with measles symptoms has increased for four days. Last Wednesday there were 9 children and yesterday Thursday there were 17 children. Today that number has increased to 27.

Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Lama Upazila Health Center. Solaiman Ahmad said, two of the four children affected by Alikadam have been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Apart from Kurukpata, two measles patients have also been identified from Rupsipara union in Lama.

Talking to the public representatives of Kurukpata Union, it is known that the condition of two children with symptoms of measles in that union is serious. They are Prenrao Mro (9) and Menpre Mro (10). They were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital from Lama last night. However, the parents of the children first returned to Chakria in Cox’s Bazar due to the crowded and unfamiliar environment in the hospital. However, those two children were not admitted there due to symptoms of measles. Later, one of the two children is being treated at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital and the other at home.

Lengrao Mro, who went to the hospital with the children, said that they were taken back from Chittagong because the environment in the hospital was not favorable. Meanwhile, this morning, the child Prenrao Mro was taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, but his father took Menpreo Mro to Alikadam, who was seriously ill. The family has informed that he will be treated at home.

Kurukpata Union borders Myanmar. About 12 thousand people live in this union. Most of them belong to the Mro community. Due to living in remote mountainous areas, the area experiences outbreaks of diarrhoea, malaria, measles and cholera every summer.

Talking to the local residents, it is known that there has been an outbreak of measles in Kurukpata for two weeks. At least three children died of measles symptoms during this period. Among them, two died on April 11 and one died last Tuesday.

Chairman of Kurukpata Union Kratpung Mro said that many areas of Kurukpata Union are disconnected. People living in these areas do not have the habit of visiting hospitals. But the number of infected is more there. Patients are being brought to the hospital from some neighborhoods along the Alikadam-Janalipara-Poamuhuri road with the help of the administration. However, the establishment of temporary medical camps in Kurukpata Bazar and Dharipara areas has now become necessary.

When asked, District Civil Surgeon Shaheen Hossain Chowdhury said that these diseases spread more in remote areas due to shortage of clean water and lack of health awareness. Wards 7, 8 and 9 of Kurukpata have the highest incidence rate. Two medical teams have already been sent there. He will visit Alikadam tomorrow Saturday to check the possibility of setting up a temporary medical camp.
