Court Delays Salman Shah Murder Investigation Report for Ninth Time

A Dhaka court has once again deferred the submission of the investigation report in the murder case of popular film actor Salman Shah, marking the ninth such postponement in the case proceedings. Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana set September 29 as the new date for the submission of the report.
The deadline for the filing was originally set for Sunday, August 30. However, the investigating officer, Inspector Ziaul Morshed of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), failed to submit the report on the scheduled date, leading the court to reschedule. Sub-Inspector Shah Alam of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police prosecution division confirmed the development.
Salman Shah, a prominent figure in the Bangladeshi film industry, died on September 6, 1996. The circumstances surrounding his death have remained a subject of intense public speculation for nearly three decades. Following the long-standing mystery, the victim’s mother, Nila Chowdhury, initiated a murder case through her brother, Alamgir Kumkum, at the Ramna Police Station in Dhaka on October 20, 2025.
The case lists several individuals as defendants, including the actor’s former wife Samira Haq, her mother Latifa Haq Lucy, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, and film actors Don, David, Javed, Faruk, Ruby, Abdul Sattar, Saju, and Rezvi Ahmed, also known as Farhad.
Legal proceedings against the accused have gained momentum recently. Actor Ashraful Haq, widely known as Don, was apprehended by authorities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on August 9 and subsequently remanded to custody. Following the rejection of his bail plea on August 12, the court granted a five-day remand for the actor on August 27, responding to a petition filed by CID Inspector Mojibur Rahman.
