Canadian Kills Singer Over Rejected Marriage Proposal

The body of popular Punjabi singer Inder Kaur, 29, also known as Yashinder Kaur, was recovered Tuesday morning from the Neelo Canal in Ludhiana, six days after she went missing. Police believe she was the victim of a meticulously planned murder orchestrated by a Canada-based man whose marriage proposal she had rejected.
The recovery of Kaur’s body has sent shockwaves through the Punjabi music industry. Preliminary investigations suggest a Canadian resident executed the killing after traveling to India via Nepal.

According to a complaint filed by her brother, Jatinder Singh, Inder Kaur left her home in a Ford Figo car around 8:30 PM on May 13 to purchase essential items. She never returned, and her mobile phone was subsequently found switched off.
Following her mysterious disappearance, Kaur’s family immediately voiced suspicions about Sukhwinder Singh, also known as Sukha, a resident of Bhalon village in Moga district. They reported that Sukhwinder had been persistently pressuring Inder Kaur to marry him.

Police sources reveal that Inder Kaur and Sukhwinder Singh initially connected and became friends through Instagram approximately three years ago. However, Kaur recently discovered that Sukhwinder was already married with children. Upon learning this, she severed all communication with him and explicitly rejected his marriage proposal, a rejection that allegedly fueled his resentment and a desire for revenge.
Investigators believe Sukhwinder Singh meticulously planned the murder from Canada. To avoid direct entry into India, he reportedly first traveled to Nepal before secretly crossing the border into Punjab.
On the night of May 13, Sukhwinder and his accomplices allegedly intercepted Inder Kaur’s vehicle, abducted her at gunpoint, brutally murdered her, and then disposed of her body in the Neelo Canal. Immediately after committing the crime, Sukhwinder reportedly fled back to Canada, utilizing the same Nepal route.
Kaur’s family has expressed strong dissatisfaction and raised questions regarding what they perceive as police negligence and a slow investigation. Her brother stated that an FIR, including specific details about Sukhwinder Singh and his alleged accomplice Karamjit Singh, was filed at Jamalpur police station on May 15. He asserted that more prompt and timely police action following her disappearance might have led to Inder Kaur being found alive.
Police have since recovered the body from the canal and sent it to the morgue at Samrala Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Balbir Singh, the SHO of Jamalpur police station, confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections concerning the brutal murder.
