Woman Slain at Coxs Bazar Hotel Room, Toddler Found Safe
Police recovered the blood-stained body of a 25-year-old woman from the washroom of a residential hotel room at the Central Bus Terminal area in Cox's Bazar town on Wednesday night (October 15), approximately around 8:00 PM. Law enforcement authorities suspect the victim, identified as Kulsuma Akter, was brutally slaughtered with a sharp weapon, leaving behind her two-and-a-half-year-old toddler who was safely rescued from the room and later handed over to other family members.
Investigators revealed that Kulsuma hailed from Eidgah Upazila in Cox's Bazar district and had traveled to the coastal town to attend a court hearing regarding an ongoing legal dispute filed against her husband, Mohammad Harun, stemming from domestic strife. According to hotel register records, Kulsuma arrived at the Stand Park Resort on Tuesday afternoon (October 14) accompanied by a man, checking into room number 302 under the guise of husband and wife along with their young child.
Hotel management reported that the couple and their toddler left the premises Wednesday morning and returned around 3:00 PM, before the gruesome discovery unfolded later that night inside the room's washroom bearing visible slash wounds on the victim's throat. The man who checked in alongside Kulsuma managed to slip away and escape from the hotel surreptitiously prior to the police intervention.
Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mohammad Ali stated that preliminary investigations indicate the man who stayed with the victim in the hotel room is not her husband Harun, and the identity of the companion remains completely unknown to Kulsuma's grieving family members. Authorities are actively working to unravel the precise motive behind the murder, establish the true identity of the fugitive suspect, and determine whether any external accomplices were involved in the homicide.
As part of the ongoing inquiry, police have taken two hotel employees into custody for rigorous interrogation to gather vital clues regarding the movements of the victim and the unidentified suspect before the fatal incident occurred.
