A sixth-grade madrasa student has been found pregnant, prompting her grandmother to file a rape case at Shyamnagar Police Station on Monday (October 6) naming three individuals, including a teacher and two students of the same educational institution.
The accused have been identified as madrasa teacher Nur Alam Sardar, 36, along with a tenth-grade student and an eighth-grade student. According to the case statement, the victim has been residing at her grandmother's residence in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira for approximately five years to pursue her studies. Her father is a resident of Sharsha upazila in Jashore district, while her mother is employed in a Middle Eastern country.
The First Information Report details that in December of last year, the tenth-grade student secretly filmed the victim while she was bathing and subsequently shared the footage with the eighth-grade student. The two students then allegedly subjected the victim to repeated sexual assault between January 2 and July by exploiting her vulnerability and threatening to disseminate the video on social media during the absence of her grandmother.
Furthermore, the case implicates teacher Nur Alam Sardar, alleging that he capitalized on his regular visits to the household as a neighbor and educator. On February 10, taking advantage of the grandmother's absence, the teacher allegedly offered the victim juice laced with a sedative, rendering her drowsy before violating her. The victim initially refrained from disclosing the abuse due to her young age and fear of social stigma.
The ordeal came to light on the morning of October 5 when the victim's physical condition deteriorated, prompting her grandmother to take her to a diagnostic center in Jashore. Medical examinations confirmed the pregnancy, following which the victim confessed to the sustained abuse under sustained questioning by her grandmother. Following the revelation of the pregnancy, the accused have reportedly gone into hiding, with their mobile phones switched off, while the wife of the accused teacher declined to comment on the matter.
The headmaster of the madrasa stated that an investigative committee has been established to probe the allegations against the teacher, and a show-cause notice was issued on Monday requiring a formal response within three days. Shyamnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Safiul Islam confirmed that a formal case has been registered and law enforcement personnel are actively conducting operations to apprehend the suspects. Describing her profound distress, the victim's grandmother expressed utter helplessness, stating that she looks solely to the legal authorities and the judicial system for justice.
