Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission hikes jet fuel prices by 28.53 taka per liter

Bangladesh has increased the price of jet fuel by 28.53 taka per liter, reversing a trend of consecutive monthly price reductions. The new rates, announced by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC), will take effect from midnight on Sunday.
Under the revised pricing, the cost of jet fuel for domestic flights has been set at 159.52 taka per liter, up from 130.99 taka. For international flights, the price has been raised from 0.8556 dollars to 1.0358 dollars per liter. This adjustment follows a reduction of 19.22 taka per liter implemented last month.
The BERC has been responsible for monthly price adjustments since May of last year. Previously, these prices were determined by the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC). However, the interim government repealed the executive authority that allowed for independent utility pricing, and a notification issued on September 15, 2024, officially transferred the mandate for setting furnace oil and Jet A-1 fuel prices to the BERC. Following this, the commission held its first public hearing on jet fuel pricing on March 23, 2025.
Global fuel prices have remained volatile due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The instability began following joint military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28, which led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz—a critical maritime route for oil supplies—and prompted attacks on U.S. positions across the region. With energy infrastructure becoming a primary target in the hostilities, global oil markets experienced significant disruption, though prices had begun to stabilize following the initiation of ceasefires.
For context, the price of jet fuel in Bangladesh stood at 95.12 taka per liter in February, prior to the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.
