Eighteen Land Office Officials Issued Show-Cause Notices Following Surprise Inspection in Narayanganj

NARAYANGANJ — Authorities have issued show-cause notices to 18 government officials, including two Assistant Commissioners (Land), following reports of widespread irregularities at land offices in Narayanganj Sadar, Fatullah, and Siddirganj. The disciplinary action was initiated after surprise inspections revealed staff absenteeism and the practice of pre-signing attendance logs.
The notices were issued after Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, State Minister for Land, conducted unannounced visits to the land offices in the Khanpur area on Monday morning. The officials identified in the probe include Sadia Akter, Assistant Commissioner (Land) for Narayanganj Sadar, and Ongmaching Marma, Assistant Commissioner (Land) for Fatullah, alongside 16 other personnel, including kanungos and surveyors.
Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Rayhan Kabir confirmed the development on Monday night. He stated that during the minister’s visit at approximately 8:30 a.m., it was discovered that numerous employees were absent despite having already signed the daily attendance register.
Addressing the findings, Minister Helal Uddin emphasized that the primary duty of government employees is to serve the public. He declared that failing to report for duty while fraudulently marking attendance is unacceptable and vowed that those involved would face administrative consequences.
Deputy Commissioner Rayhan Kabir stated that the district administration is treating these lapses with the utmost severity to ensure punctuality and the delivery of essential services. Authorities will evaluate the responses to the show-cause notices, alongside evidence gathered from closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, before determining further legal or administrative actions in accordance with government regulations.
