Police arrest 15 for unauthorized youth league procession in Anwara

Police in Anwara upazila of Chattogram arrested 15 people on Sunday morning following an unauthorized flash protest march organized under the banner of the Chattogram South District Jubo League. Authorities intercepted the group near the Borumchara intersection on the PAB road at approximately 9:30 a.m. and seized two microbuses used during the incident.
Law enforcement officials reported that an estimated 70 to 75 individuals gathered to stage the demonstration. Upon arriving at the scene, police detained 30 people. Eight minors under the age of 15 were subsequently released to their families after legal undertakings were signed. While 15 of the detainees were remanded to judicial custody, the remaining seven minors are scheduled to appear before a juvenile court on Monday. All those arrested are residents of Banshkhali upazila.
Sub-Inspector Mohammad Jewel Mia, the investigating officer for the case, confirmed that the 15 suspects were charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act before being sent to prison. Anwara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Junaid Chowdhury stated that a formal case has been filed naming 54 individuals, with an additional 15 to 20 unidentified suspects also listed.
This incident marks the latest in a series of flash protests occurring along the Anwara-Banshkhali corridor. Last Thursday, a march was held under the banner of the banned student organization Bangladesh Chhatra League. Following that event, a case was registered against 78 named individuals, including the former land minister’s personal assistant, and 138 unidentified persons.
Additionally, a separate demonstration took place on the morning of August 15, marking the anniversary of the death of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, where participants marched under the Chhatra League banner on Anwara College Road. A case involving 45 named suspects was filed in connection with that incident on charges of subversion.
