Rapid Action Battalion Cancels Anniversary Cultural Program at Keraniganj Headquarters Following Political Controversy

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-10) abruptly canceled its anniversary celebrations and cultural program at its headquarters in Rajendrapur, South Keraniganj, on Saturday. The event, which included invitations for battalion personnel and their families, was called off suddenly just hours before it was scheduled to begin.

RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Wing Commander M Z M Intekhab Chowdhury confirmed the cancellation when contacted on Saturday evening. While he noted that he had been invited to attend the proceedings, he stated that he was not informed of the specific reasons behind the decision to abort the event.

Official sources within RAB headquarters indicated that the cancellation was ordered by senior leadership. The decision followed a parliamentary session on Thursday, during which a lawmaker criticized the government regarding the suspension of cultural programs at police lines in Kishoreganj and Brahmanbaria. In response to those remarks, students from a madrasa in Brahmanbaria organized a protest march late Friday night.

Local sources suggested that the event had been a subject of public discussion in the Keraniganj area for several days. Authorities reportedly moved to cancel the festivities to prevent potential unrest or untoward incidents in light of the brewing social tensions.
