Prime Minister Tareque Rahman Pledges Government Support for Victims of Political Violence and July Uprising

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman reaffirmed his government’s commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of those who sacrificed their lives and suffered during the nation’s democratic movements. Speaking at an event held at the Karobi Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon on Saturday, the Prime Minister vowed to support the families of victims of enforced disappearances and those affected during the July mass uprising.
The event was organized to formally distribute job appointment letters to 74 members of families affected by enforced disappearances and the July mass uprising. During his address, Prime Minister Rahman acknowledged the irreparable loss suffered by these families and assured them of the government’s continued support, despite the country’s limited resources.
Addressing the audience with visible emotion, the Prime Minister remarked that the occasion was deeply painful as it served to remember those who are no longer present due to their sacrifices. He credited these individuals for the liberation of the nation’s 200 million people from a fascist regime. He further emphasized that the current administration is dedicated to realizing the goals of those who contributed to the 1971 Liberation War, the subsequent struggles for democracy, and the recent July uprising.
While acknowledging that systemic challenges may delay the realization of certain goals, the Prime Minister stressed that the government remains resolute in its efforts to honor the visions for which these individuals risked their lives. He characterized the sacrifices of these fighters as the primary inspiration for his administration’s work, stating that their support provides the government with the courage and motivation to proceed with its agenda.
The Prime Minister concluded by requesting continued cooperation and encouragement from the families of the martyrs and victims, emphasizing that their collective support is essential for the government to successfully build the nation they envisioned.
Several family members of the victims and martyrs shared their personal reflections and experiences during the event. The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar, Press Secretary Saleh Shibli, and several Deputy and Assistant Press Secretaries, along with representatives from the organization ‘Amra BNP Poribar’.
