Customs officials seize three luxury vehicles at Coxs Bazar hotel over suspected tax evasion

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials have seized three luxury vehicles from the parking facility of a five-star hotel in Cox’s Bazar. The operation was conducted following allegations that the vehicles were imported through tax evasion, document forgery, or misdeclaration.
The operation took place at approximately 3:00 a.m. on Friday at the Ocean Paradise Hotel. According to a press release issued by the Chittagong regional office of the CIID, the raid was led by the agency’s additional director general, acting on credible intelligence.
The impounded vehicles include a red Toyota, a red Honda, and a twin-gray Mazda, all bearing Dhaka Metro license plates. During the operation, customs officials interrogated three individuals identified as Md. Hasibur Rahman Sinha, who was in possession of the Toyota; Md. Safiyat Mahmud, associated with the Honda; and Md. Sarafat Rahman, who was with the Mazda. None of the individuals could produce valid documentation regarding the purchase or legal importation of the vehicles.
Rezvi Ahmed, Additional Director General of the CIID’s Chittagong office, stated that preliminary investigations indicate the cars may have been brought into the country through illicit means, including smuggling and the use of forged documents.
Authorities have confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the origin of the vehicles. The CIID is currently pursuing legal action against those involved in the matter.
